MEET TRUDY
My Life and my Loves!
My love of baking and cake decorating goes back to my very early childhood. I remember being in awe of the Kenwood mixer that sat on the side in our kitchen (it was far too big for any of the cupboards). That mixer appeared to create the most delicious cakes and frostings and that thought obviously stayed with me over the years as I now own four of those amazing Kenwood’s!
In later life I appreciated I’d also had a gift passed on through my Mother and my dear old Nan with the baking experience they had taught me!
For years, even though I had a very successful career in sales travelling the length and breadth of the UK and enjoying 5* all exclusive holidays in places such as Cuba and South Africa. There was always something missing!
It wasn’t until 2017 that I finally began pursuing my dreams. I had always baked cakes for my sons when they were younger. In that same year I ordered my middle son a birthday cake for the surprise party that his partner had organised for him with family and friends. As the waitress brought out the cake I leant over to my husband and said, “That is something I would really love to do”! He joked and said with a grin on his face, “What be a waitress?”. I said “No, to be a professional cake maker”.
My husband Richard had always known it was a passion of mine and the following month whilst I was recovering from my second major surgery in as many years, he encouraged me to finally follow my dreams!
When I began taking cake decorating and baking classes, I was instantly hooked! I spent months honing my skills and trained with many award winning bakers. In early 2018 I gained my PME Masters in Sugarcraft.
Very early on I knew that I didn’t want to be just any baker. I didn’t want to bake the oaty, dense cakes that most people associated with vegan baking. My cakes were going to be light and fluffy, moist and flavoursome just like the traditional cakes I had baked in my younger years. I wanted my cakes to fool the harshest critics but at the same time I didn’t want to hide behind a generic name.
In May 2018 The Iced Vegan was born!
I couldn’t be more thrilled and all that hard work means I now have my own business doing one of the things I love most. Baking and creating bespoke vegan cakes to make people’s weddings and events that extra bit special.
I enjoy teaching people to bake and create their own vegan cakes in my classes. I especially enjoy baking and icing cakes with my grandchildren. Passing on my passion to them like my Mum and Nan did for me all those years ago but now the vegan friendly way!
